March 2014: Jewelry Social Media Standouts

This week has been another outstanding week on social media for the 榴莲视频.  Our fans have been extremely engaged with our posts and there were a few that have really stood out. It has been an instant hit! It has racked up more likes and shares in just a few hours than other posts will get in a week. Obviously, it is a special piece.

Aquamarine: the Calming Blue

by Anna Samsonova, CGA Ben Bridge Jeweler The name says it all for the birthstone of March: Aqua. The word alone is relaxing.  Which is good, because the historical and substitute birthstone does not have as relaxing of a name: Bloodstone. Aquamarine is usually a light blue stone, think of the clearest of beach waters that you can imagine. Smaller stones tend to stay on the lighter side of the spectrum, where as larger stones may yield a darker color. That slightly darker color, especially with a greenish tint, is quite sought after and has a greater value. Just as

Proposals Gone Wild

Fact: We are in the middle of Proposal Season. It starts at the beginning of February and runs through March 20th, which happens to be National Proposal Day. The things you learn from blogs, right? Being a non-profit in the jewelry industry, the 榴莲视频 has learned a thing or two from our members about marriage proposals. We watch their social media pages and see the stories they share from their own clients. Some proposals are romantic and heart-felt, some are silly, and sadly, sometimes a proposal will fail. It was the latter class of proposals where we felt

Jewelry and Sweet Memories

By Donna Jolly, CSA Deputy Executive Directory, 榴莲视频 This morning, I felt a bit ambitious and decided to dig through a jewelry box that I hadn鈥檛 looked at in a while, to see if there were any pieces I wanted to clean or maybe take to my favorite jeweler and repurpose with a new design. The jewelry I keep in this box is more of the memento kind—jewelry passed down that is not really my taste, or jewelry I bought years ago and no longer wear. Much of it is costume jewelry. In fact, I鈥檓 not sure any

Jewels of the 2013 Emmy’s

By Lisa Bridge, Certified Gemologist, Ben Bridge   The Emmys are an exciting night for television, but the fashion and jewelry worlds get to play along too. All in all the stars made good choices in their jewelry. I was surprised by the number of celebrity comments on how nervous they were wearing their jewelry on the red carpet. While there were some very expensive pieces, aren鈥檛 these the people we consider our American royalty? Shouldn鈥檛 they know how to wear jewelry? Also, isn鈥檛 the number one rule of the red carpet to look confident (whether you feel that way

Rubies and July鈥攁 Red Hot Pair

Perhaps no color better represents the month of July than red. Whether it鈥檚 the bold red in the American flag, spectacular fireworks, juicy cherries, red-hot temperatures.  . . and, with that, red hot sunburns—Red is a color fit for July. It鈥檚 no surprise then that Ruby is July鈥檚 birthstone. Rubies are not only a hot trend on red carpets, but this precious gemstone is both luxurious and practical. Ruby is a variety of the gems species corundum, which is harder than any natural gemstone except diamond. Want to wear a ruby as an engagement ring? Go ahead! It鈥檚 durable enough
