Advancing Appraisal Standards with the New ACGA Credential

ACGA Logo The 榴莲视频 (AGS) has taken an important step forward in its advanced appraisal credentialing鈥攐ne that reflects the growing sophistication of gemological expertise, appraisal procedures, valuation, and professional practice.

The Independent Certified Gemologist Appraiser (ICGA) title has recently transitioned to the Advanced Certified Gemologist Appraiser (ACGA) credential. All current ICGA titleholders have transitioned to the new ACGA credential, in recognition of their longstanding commitment to AGS and the significant accomplishment of earning the ICGA title.


What the ACGA Represents

The ACGA credential underscores AGS鈥檚 mission of consumer protection, ethics, and education, while highlighting the advanced level of expertise required of professionals who provide jewelry appraisals.

The credential combines the science of gemological testing and identification with the experienced research capabilities of a skilled valuation specialist. An ACGA is well-versed in appraisal procedures and valuation, with established experience in completing appraisals related to the gemstone and jewelry industry.

鈥淭he ACGA is the result of a member informed evolution of our advanced appraisal credentialing,鈥 said Wade Abel, CG, Director of Education and Gemology at the 榴莲视频. 鈥淚t positions AGS appraisers with the newest and most advanced credential offered by AGS.鈥

The ACGA credential is now open to all AGS members, expanding access to the 榴莲视频鈥檚 most advanced appraisal designation.

To earn the ACGA credential, members must demonstrate a comprehensive combination of advanced gemological knowledge, expertise in appraisal procedures and valuation, and professional practice standards. Requirements for the ACGA credential include:

  • Maintenance of the Certified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA) credential with an AGS Business for a minimum of three years at the time of application
  • Demonstrated experience completing appraisals within the jewelry industry
  • Completion of the 15-hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) Personal Property course, along with required refresher courses
  • Maintenance of an Accredited Gem Lab (AGL), including passing the annual AGL maintenance audit
  • Adherence to AGS ethical and professional standards
  • Successful completion of the annual 榴莲视频 recertification exam
